![]() With a wide-angle focal length and an exceptionally bright design, the lens is suitable for a wide range of subjects and shooting situations. The Sony Alpha FE 24mm f/1.4 prime lens is yet another valuable addition to Sony's line of G Master lenses, specifically designed for use with full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras and APS-C sensor models. The glass elements are also Nano AR-coated to control lens flaring and ghosting, thus increasing image contrast and color fidelity even when shooting in harshly lit environments. Three extra-low dispersion (ED) and two extreme aspherical (XA) lens elements significantly reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations for enhanced image sharpness and clarity. Aside from supporting hybrid autofocus with both contrast and focal-plane phase detection AF, the lens has a Direct Drive Super Sonic Motor (DDSSM) system that provides quick, silent, and high-precision AF performance. The circular aperture also features a total of 11 blades, allowing the lens to produce perfectly round out-of-focus lights and smoother bokeh. The 24mm perspective is just wide enough to capture more of the scene without presenting too much apparent distortion while the complementary f/1.4 maximum aperture offers increased depth of field control and enhanced low-light performance. Looking forward for more GM like this one. I have been saving up to own a set of Leica Luxes for small size/weight, but this really quenched that need. + Baked in vignetting and lateral CA correction: I prefer to fix these my own, especially vignetting. I expected blazing fast like the FE 55/1.8 due to the new 3x torque AF motor. + Fast focus speed: faster than the GM 85 and FE 50/1.4 but slower than say FE 55/1.8. + Above average chromatic aberration suppression: they're there, but not to the point of uncorrectable in post-process. + Above average flare resistance and when it happens, flare and ghost can be ugly + Great manual focus feel, quite comparable with the best manual focus lenses + True to the GM design philosophy: prioritize sharpness and bokeh with highest Sony construction quality (aperture ring, customizable on body button, de-click) + Very minimal focus breathing, not just great for video but also for focus stacking + Mild pincushion distortion (unusual for a wide) that is good for portrait + Lowest sagittal coma in it class, great for. + Sharp corner-to-corner from WO, great stop down as well + Lightest and smallest for its class so more enjoyable to use, more suitable for small Sony mirrorless bodies Here is my own list of pros, so-so, and cons The most important points are that it's lighter than all modern 24/1.4 (including the Leica 24/1.4) and smaller than most (bigger than the Leica). It's not an exaggeration to say that Sony just made the best 24/1.4 out there.
